Hospice

A special kind of caring is needed to help someone with a terminal illness be at home or a nursing home surrounded by those they love. Visiting Nurse Association’s Hospice team ensures the needs of both patient and family are met. Coordinated by the patient’s family and physician, the team includes nurses, social workers, home health aides, volunteers, chaplains, and bereavement counselors.

Hospice means you are choosing comfort and caring for the one you love over active treatment that is unlikely to change that person’s condition over time. It is choosing well- being over wellness. Hospice sometimes actually extends the life of a patient, because of the extra care and attention that is given, with a focus on maximizing comfort.

Unlike many hospices, VNA Hospice Care is proud to have a Medical Director who is an expert in pain management and is a Board Certified specialist in Hospice and Palliative Care, one of the few in this area. Our Medical Director is also available to make visits to patients in their homes or in nursing homes, which is a unique service among local hospices, as well.

In addition, VNA Hospice Care is the only non-hospital based, non- profit hospice in the area. It is also a charter member of the United Way and provides services without regard to payment ability. Our hospice also receives funding via personal donations as well as community support.

You have many hospices to choose from in this community. You have the choice of hospices, which are extensions of hospitals and nursing homes, some not always recognized for their quality of care, and you have a choice of providers with home bases in places like Oklahoma, Florida, and California. And there are others who have been in business only a few days, a few months or a few years. But there is only one with the name VNA and only one with nearly 95 years of experience in caring for patients at home and more than 25 years of specialized experience in hospice. What better reasons to choose VNA Hospice Care, when you determine it’s the right time for hospice.
