Meningitis Program
Visiting Nurse Association’s initiative each year is to help educate students and parents about Meningitis and the national immunization recommendations. VNA can help by providing clients an alternative, quick and convenient way to receive the vaccine at our office or by providing this service at an alternate location. (Click here to make a referral)
According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), preteens at the preadolescent doctor’s visit (11-to 12-year-olds), or adolescents at high school entry (15-year-olds), or college freshmen living in dormitories should be immunized against meningococcal disease with a new meningococcal conjugate vaccine.
Many colleges and universities require the vaccine, while some require only education about the risks. By September 2005, over 34 states had enacted meningitis vaccination education, laws or policies.
